Podiatric surgeons are podiatrists who have post graduate training in
surgery to a level needed to obtain Commonwealth accredited specialist
registration. This is a different pathway from an orthopaedic surgeon
who obtains specialist registration, then works toward
sub-specialisation in foot and ankle. Arguably, the time and experience
spent in training looking at foot and ankle problems by an orthopaedist
will be less than that of a podiatric surgeon. On the other side of the
argument Podiatric Surgeons don’t have experience in delivering babies
or performing hip replacements, but nor do they need to!
